To any who really care,
Subsequent to a relatively brief military career and moving to Calgary, I was diagnosed by a local physician (Dr. Tim Cran) as being osteopenic (i.e., week bones). Under a previous evaluation by a physician at CUPS (Dr. Hilbert), I was initially placed on "Didrocal" for about a year. Subsequent to this prescription not working, I was transferred to an "Osteocit D" prescription by Dr. Cran which appeared to work and was, at least initially, covered through AISH.
I received an unsigned letter dated May 11, 2009, today from Alberta Blue Cross which denied coverage of the Osteocit D stating: "Guidelines for Alberta government sponsored-drug programs do not allow coverage of calcium or vitamin D for the prevention or treatment of osteoperosis." Given that I fractured three ribs upon arriving in Alberta (treated at the hospital in Medicine Hat) and have had reconstructive surgery (Jan. 31/08) at Rocky View Hospital for multiple lower leg fractures due to slipping on snow, I am only now awaiting for the next bone to break and the subsequent reconstructive surgery.
Is there any way I can receive just attention to my health needs in this province?
Thank you very much for your attention to this request.
